I am taking the easy way out: I am writing this blog tonight (Wednesday), since I can not face getting up and writing it BEFORE I leave for my moonlighting job: guest-hosting “FOX & Friends.” Even I am not “that” nuts. By the way, I have received so much hate mail from viewers about my guest hosting — I had no idea how hated I am… and by the “FOX & Friends” audience! The level of hostility is quite a surprise. It is stunning so many viewers took to the keyboard. (Could I be THAT bad? Could ANYONE be THAT bad?) Oh well… never dull, huh?
Since I am in New York City, I spent much of the day in the New York bureau newsroom. Our show work area is next to Bill O’Reilly’s show work area. Bill walked by and we talked about his new book and his interview with President Bush. He is going to do our show in the next few weeks to discuss his new book. If you watched Bill’s interview with the president (and if you have never met the president) you might think he is very short. Not so… Bill is very tall (6 foot 5?) and thus just about everyone looks little next to him.
I also ran into a colleague who used to work in the D.C. bureau, but now works in our NYC headquarters. I am insanely jealous of her — she is going to Vietnam in November. FOX News is doing the media pool coverage for President Bush’s trip there and she is thus going. Vietnam is a place I would love to see — it was such a big part of my life growing up, so I would like to finally see it.
Send me an e-mail answering these questions: Did you vote in 2004? Are you going to vote in 19 days? If not, why not?
Now for some e-mails — and yes, I decided to spare you the hostile ones about me guest-hosting “FOX & Friends”:

Hey Greta,
I’m surprised you were not allowed to tape tonight’s show this evening so you could get more sleep.
Good luck tomorrow,
Steve

Dear Greta,
Looked at your Photo Essay today and was wondering where the Green Room gets its name since it is definitely not green.
Nancy
ANSWER: I am told it is an old TV term. One of the networks’ first waiting rooms was green and the name stuck. You would think we would either paint it green or call it by its proper color, but we are not that ambitious.

Let it be known and in capital letters: I AM SICK AND TIRED OF BEING TIRED ABOUT DEMOS AND REPUBS AND THEIR CONSTANT NEGATIVE ADS. THEY DON’T DO ANYTHING FOR ME IN CHANGING MY VOTE.
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF NEWS “REPORTERS” AND HIGHLY PAID “ANALYSTS” REPORTING SUCH GARBAGE.
BOTH DEMOS AND REPUBS SHOULD FIRE THOSE PEOPLE WHO ADVERTISE THIS WAY… IT IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF CONFUSION AMONG OUR SO-CALLED LEADERS.
WE HAVE LOST ANY CONSENSUS THAT WE HAD AS A NATION. WE ARE DEFINITELY DIVIDED. MULTICULTURALISM HAS WON OUT IN MORE THAN ONE WAY. WE WANTED DIVISION… WE GOT IT. WE ARE NOW A BUNCH OF TRIBES.
WE WANTED POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. WE GOT IT. AND I HAVE SAID BEFORE, OUR ENEMIES KNOW IT.
Respectfully submitted,
Bill Dorey

Greta,
It’s been a while since I rode the N.Y./Washington commuter (like a couple of decades), but unless they have done a LOT of work on the rails it’s like riding a jack hammer! Lots of luck getting any sleep! Since you are a “Diva” can’t you get FOX to spring for a helicopter ride? <Grin>
Peace,

Greta,
We were just watching your report on the Amber Alert in Kentucky. We would like you to know that we have had some personal experience with the state and social services here in California. For I know a family that moved to California and after she had her newborn son the social services came into the hospital a day after she had her son and told her that she could not take him home and the other state she was in the social services done the same thing to her other son also so she had this happen to her twice and it has taken a toll on her. For she has been dealing with another state on her other 2 kids and there is not enough on the case to keep the baby from her. And the baby’s father was married to a gal before he got with the baby’s mom and he and his wife had a baby together and the state where they were living in at the time took the baby from the mother and never gave the father a chance with the baby girl the social services held the mother’s pass against the baby’s dad. And that is what California social services has been doing also with this one. And the baby’s father is a slow learner and on SSI for that and the social services have tried to use that to keep from giving the baby to the dad also the father has a another son that his wife was pregnant with when she left the father in the state they were dealing with there daughter in and now that his ex-wife has lost that son in the state she lives in but California social services don’t think the father is able to take care of 2 kids at once. He could have provided numerous character witnesses in being able to take care of a child, and he has helped take care of his sister’s kids also. And he has never had any incident with is daughter that would make anyone suspect he would endanger his children. And when they told the social services that no one loves him more than we do and that we are willing to do whatever it takes to get him back for he is our responsibility. However we have found that social services is very quick to take children from parents in the 2 states we have been dealing with and thought you’d be interested in this information, as well as provide you with insight as to how frustrated a parent can get when social services inexplicably removes children from homes.
So please don’t use my name.

I read the two e-mails about the murder abduction case in Kentucky. The person who said more folks should knock off the social workers — what a stupid comment. That lady was someone’s grandmother. Let’s hope that jerk treats his grandmother better than the social worker was. After thinking a second, we know that he wouldn’t. The guy, Michael I. Sklar, would probably knock off his grandmother too!
The writer’s comments are irresponsible. I am fairly conservative but I think this is one area where “freedom of speech” is stretched beyond what civil society should accept. Unfortunately, the penalty for being a jerk is getting your e-mail published.
