NEW DELHI – Indian police say they have arrested two men suspected of kidnapping and killing a journalist in central Madhya Pradesh state.
Superintendent Neeraj Soni says Sandeep Kothari was abducted by a group of men who beat him to death and then burned his body.
Soni said Monday that police are searching for a third man allegedly involved in the attack.
He denied local media reports that Kothari was killed for reporting about illegal sand mining in the state, and said he was killed instead by business rivals.
Kothari’s death comes less than two weeks after another journalist was set on fire and killed in neighboring Uttar Pradesh state.
